Se devi amarmi, per null’altro sia
che solo per amore. Non dire mai
''L'amo per il suo sorriso, per il suo sguardo, per il suo modo
dolce di parlare, per il suo pensiero
che si accorda bene con il mio,
che in quel giorno mi ha dato una piacevole serenità" -
Queste son cose che possono mutare,
mio Amato, in se o per te, e un amore
così plasmato potrebbe poi disfarsi.
Non amarmi per pietà delle lacrime
che vorresti vedere asciugate sulle mie guance, –
una creatura, che ha goduto a lungo del tuo conforto,
potrebbe dimenticare di piangere e in tal modo perdere il tuo amore!
Ma amami per il piacere di amare, che per sempre
tu possa amarmi, nell'eternità dell'amore.
