#SGUARDI POIETICI / La tradizione (Kathleen Jamie)

Testo originale (The Tradition)

For years I wandered hill and moor
Half looking for the road
Winding into fairyland
Where that blacksmith kept a forge

Who’d heat red hot the dragging links
That bound me to the past,
Then, with one almighty hammer-blow
Unfetter me at last.

Older now, I know nor fee
Nor anvil breaks those chains
And the wild ways we think we walk
Just bring us here again.

#SGUARDI POIETICI / Spirea (Kathleen Jamie)

Secondo la tradizione certe poete gaeliche
venivano sepolte a faccia in giù…
Così la seppellirono, e si volsero verso casa,
un salmo uggioso
li avvolgeva come nebbia,

non sapevano che il liquido
che gocciolava dalle sue labbra
si sarebbe fatto strada là sotto,

e impigliati nella sua treccia
grigia che lentamente si scioglieva
c’erano semi estivi:

spirea, balsamo bastardo,
segni di onestà, che già
cominciavano a strisciare

verso la luce, mostrandole,
giunto il momento,
come dissotterrarsi –

emergere e salutarli,
bocca giovane, di nuovo piena
di terra, e sputo, e poesia.

Testo originale
Meadowsweet

Tradition suggests that certain of the Gaelic
women poets were buried face down.

So they buried her, and turned home,
a drab psalm
hanging about them like haar,

not knowing the liquid
trickling from her lips
would seek its way down,

and that caught in her slowly
unravelling plait of grey hair
were summer seeds:

meadowsweet, bastard balm,
tokens of honesty, already
beginning their crawl

toward light, so showing her,
when the time came,
how to dig herself out –

to surface and greet them,
mouth young, and full again
of dirt, and spit, and poetry.
